Hampton; The Marsh

One of our favorite things about living in Hampton is it's natural settings.  Hampton has a secret.....it's the trail that goes from Dutch Point Park, all along the edge of Ossekeag Creek (which is marsh land) then with a quick walk down the street starts back up at Spooner Island and takes you along past the sewage lagoons ( which are always filled with waterfowl) and then up past the High School.   This set of trails is an amazing place to visit, so much wildlife, and a really nice place to walk, especially the trail system around Dutch Point.
Also, there is McManis Lake , another local secret;  there is a road that goes into this spot , a Lake which is just off the highway and a great place to watch Bald Eagles and Osprey fish.
Then if you have a boat, from the boat launch on the Kenebecasis you can go up or down river and explore more marshes....down river there is an entrance into a creek which by paddle will lead under dense cover of Silver Maple, with creatures such as the Northern Waterthrush, the Beaver, and my favorite waders like Herons and Bitterns. The creek meanders through the huge trees, then opens up as you enter the main channels of the vast Hampton Marsh, this is a one of the kind natural marsh which is fresh water but is affected by the tides from the Bay of Fundy.  Their are rare plants found here, as well as a ton of wild birds like the Sora, the Rail, waterfowl, waders, warblers, as well as others.   As a nature photographer , this is my home, and We (Kitt and I) love it here.
